About
Gold Experience
I am currently going for the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Minor that is offered at UMBC. In order to get this minor, I must take two core class, ENTR 200 Introduction to Entrepreneurship and ENTR 201 The Entrepreneurial Mindset, which are three credits each. The other courses that I took include ENME 408 Global Engineering, and ENME 444 Capstone. This adds all up to about 12 credit hours which was spread out over the time I spent at UMBC. Going for this minor will count for a gold experience for my entrepreneurship experience. Being in the courses for my minor, I was placed in many group projects. I’ve realized that when in a group project I usually step in as a leader especially if no one else is willing. Now usually with stepping in as the leader of projects, this requires the ability to be an effective leader and have various strategies. Having good leadership strategies requires me to be extremely flexible when juggling all the group projects on top of my schoolwork. One would think being a good team member would be a given, but I’ve had to learn how to moderate different ideas and opinions when making a group project. Especially when in my entrepreneurship classes. I’m usually in groups where I’m the only stem majors so I need to make sure that I’m able to understand their point of view. I also need to articulate my point of view in a way, so they understand me in order to work effectively and efficiently on our projects to produce a cohesive blend of both stem and art majors. This minor has also shown me that making a startup business is not easy nor should be taken lightly. It takes persistence since there is an extremely high chance that your original idea might not work out and you need to be able to accept criticism and make the necessary chances in order for you to have a successful business.
